Beaten-down LED chipmaker SemiLEDs (LEDS +18.9%) is up sharply on strong volume. A possible trigger for the move is a Digitimes column stating Taiwanese LED vendors expect their shipments for lighting applications to grow in Q2, thanks to Samsung's expansion efforts. Given that SemiLEDs carried a short ratio of 3.5 as of Nov. 30, major news might not be necessary to spur a short-covering rally.
