Sales at U.S. retailers rose an estimated 4.5% Y/Y in the week ending Dec. 24 and 0.9% from the prior week, but FBR Capital says many stores were offering the kinds of discounts that don’t bode well for margins, noting Aeropostale's (ARO) 70%-off post-Christmas sale. But American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) appeared to have run through high inventory and could post big comps.
