iOS 7 is "better and worse all at once," says The Verge's Joshua Topolsky after getting a first-hand look. While granting "there are some extremely beautiful aspects," such as iOS 7's revamped typography and multitasker, he also sees "points of confusion and even missteps," such as varying icon styles and UI issues with notifications and Control Center. Focusing on the app changes, TechCrunch's Ryan Lawler has a more positive take. "Apple (AAPL +0.3%) has updated the core functionality of some default apps just enough that they might start winning users over again ... it looks like Apple has learned from what its third-party competitors app partners are doing." From a design perspective, if you want to see "points of confusion and even missteps" look no further than The Verge's homepage.

The Verge home page is very beautiful. VOX Media pay a great deal of attention to design style and I think it is one of the key reasons why the site is one of the fastest growing tech sites on the planet. Topolsky as the chief editor of the company has a massive say in that. He is also clearly a big fan of Apple.
Therefore I would take the criticisms of someone who:
    A) Heads a tech website.
    B) Loves Apple
    C) Understands modern design style
    extremely seriously.

OTOH, anytime you change anything, some people are going to be disappointed. Some people were bitterly disappointed when they changed Babe Ruth from pitcher to the field! Turned out pretty well. Apple has had a cast of thousands of highly paid engineers and technicians working on IOS 7 for months on end, and this fellow looks at it for a few minutes and has it all figured out? Maybe, but maybe not. There are many glowing reviews out there, too. We'll see.

iOS 7 is in Beta and pre-released only to developers. "Points of Confusion" and inconsistencies will become apparent and will be corrected before final release -- this is the Apple way.

Now, Daveqwerty, that is one sane comment in all this Android/Microsoft ballyhoo. As much as they may seem to rich for our blood, the Apple way has so far proven a better way. I have stuck with Apple, through Jobs' exile and return, and am enjoying the complementarity of systems without too many difficulties (none that a visit to the Genius desk can't cure). I would like to have those genii be better paid and rewarded, however. I'm sick an tired of all the lovers earning less - God forbid they get screwed. Apple seems like family, which I'm sure is an illusion, but public relations is sometimes the only way people know anyone. Let's go, Apple!

That's the same guy who said the iPad will fail and the Motorola Atrix will succeed. I wouldn't pay attention too much to what he has to say.
