Disney (DIS +0.3%) will shut down ESPN's 3D sports channel by the end of the year due to low consumer demand, according to a company spokesperson. The move fits into an overall corporate theme of finding ways to cut costs and doing a little downsizing in unprofitable areas.

3D has seemed to be a flop for companies that have attempted to use it.

Over the past 10 quarters, Disney's operating and profit margins have remained stable with gradual increases.

Media network growth has decelerated from 13% yoy to 7.7% yoy from March 2011 to 2013.
