California Governor Jerry Brown yesterday proposed to slash the state's projected $9.2B deficit...

California Governor Jerry Brown yesterday proposed to slash the state's projected $9.2B deficit next FY with $4.2B in cuts to social services and $4.7B in tax hikes. Unlike previously, the tax measures won't require legislative approval, so Brown will be able to pass the budget without the GOP's input.

California becomes the latest deranged polity to embrace Putinism: tax, regulate, confiscate, collectivize and ignore with contempt and callousness ordinary people.

This is the typical trajectory of a failed state.

Until they reform public pensions they will never get to a sustainable budget.

Union members are fiscal rapists with political support paid for by their campaign contributions.

Utter nonsense. There are no real spending cuts (the state budget submitted is 7% *higher* than last year's), but he is demanding a big tax hike. You at least got that part right. The rest is budget gimmicks and misdirection. Shocking to imagine a politician would engage in such things, I know...just about as shocking as the MSM swallowing it whole and regurgitating it word for word as if they were the PR office for the Democrat politician in question.

And the conservatives let 'em do it.

Instead of screaming bloody murder, they stand around like a bunch of pansies, afraid to "offend someone" when it's the opportunity of a lifetime to lead and teach.

This isn't the final word, but it's at least a sign that even California might not be stupid enough to do the High Speed Rail To Nowhere.
