Samsung (SSNLF.PK) confirms the launch of a Galaxy S4 model that doubles peak download speeds by supporting a basic version of the LTE-Advanced standard. Perhaps just as interestingly, the new model uses a processor from Qualcomm's (QCOM -1.3%) high-end Snapdragon 800 (2.3 GHz., quad-core) line, current models use either a Snapdragon 600 or Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa. Design win activity for the 800 appears strong - the rumor mill indicates an 800 chip will go into Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, as well as pending Nokia and Sony hardware. Benchmarks (I, II) show the 800 trouncing the Octa and even Apple's A6X CPU (used in the 4th-gen iPad).
