An upgrade to Outperform from FBR's Christopher Rolland allows AMD (AMD +0.5%) to rise in the face of an equity selloff. Rolland is upbeat about AMD's SeaMicro microserver platform unit after talking with engineers/CTO at last week's GigaOm Structure conference, even as he grants AppliedMicro's (AMCC -3.3%) X-Gene chips have a mindshare edge in the server CPU space. He also thinks AMD's Xbox One/PS4 design wins can yield $900M/year in revenue. "We applaud AMD's decision to diversify away from the traditional PC market and toward semi-custom ICs, embedded processors ... and microserver systems." Jim Cramer predicted last Thursday AMD would catch upgrades. (Barron's on SeaMicro)
