The outlook for would-be 4G carrier LightSquared is looking bleak after a letter supported by 9 federal agencies states "there appear to be no practical solutions" to eliminating the GPS interference issues caused by LightSquared's network. Should LightSquared fail to go commercial, Sprint (S -2.4%) would be very dependent on Clearwire (CLWR +1.3%) to achieve its 4G deployment goals.

Sprint, like all telecoms, is "very dependent" on somebody for back haul and spectrum regardless which way the LightSquared deal is now ending. Clearwire seems more than sufficient to supply all of Sprints needs with the duals recently affirmed relationship. Sprint and Clearwire currently execute very integrated business interests and are ahead of schedule to achieve 4G deployment goals.
