One to watch: Latest technoboomer to hit the bigtime is Snapchat, which on the basis of new investment is worth $800M. Snapchat today revealed a $60M funding round led by Institutional Venture Partners. Techcrunch reported that Snapchat accounts for more photos shared than Instagram, and it's often cited as an example of what Facebook's (FB) Poke tried to do but couldn't (I, II).

  • Supposedly predominantly used by teenagers for sexting ... flasher/sexting - it's just terminology.

  • No barrier to entry for a temporary image caching service - might go huge, but comes back quickly unless there's a good monetization model.

  • I don't get it.. FB instagram, Snapchat.. why use an secondary service to send images when you can just IM the pic, with a message using built-in apps? Hello!!! try to monetize something that your phone does for free already? Every smartphone made already comes with it.. and who does not have instant messaging these days? pure idiocy..

  • Great cyber-bullying platform also - as the evidence disappears immediately (presumably accessible under subpoena but what teenager will know that when they are receiving a stream of abuse only they see) - another stupid idea to distract our kids (an dolts) into wasting more time while our economy and innovation tanks!
