Nice timing for TransCanada (TRP) in today's Natural Resources Council report that says heavy crude oil to be carried by the proposed Keystone XL pipeline poses no greater risk of a spill than other types of oil, and that moving diluted bitumen through pipelines poses no special leak risks. It should not be ignored that Warren Buffett has extensive energy holdings as well as railroads. These include refiner Phillips 66 (PSX), driller National Oilwell Varco (NOV) and did/does have holdings in Conoco (COP) as well as Berkshire's MidAmerican Energy which is an electrical/natural gas utility which includes pipelines.

It would not be a stretch to see him acquire oil pipelines as well as they fit his criteria for investing. In reality he is probably largely agnostic as to whether Keystone XL proceeds or not.

And note the XL right-of-wayin Nebraska is a "few" miles west of Omaha ... it's not going to pass through his living room.

Pres came out yesterday favoring the pipeline. He was able to do this in the cloud of his big push on global warming that appeased the tree huggers. He needed the tree huggers in the election as they carried more votes than the unions. He is playing politics on America's well being. This pipeline will create 20,000 American jobs for Americans. No "guest workers" will be needed.
