China Unicom (CHU), the only Chinese carrier authorized to sell the iPhone (for now, anyway), has begun selling prepaid Android phones at a price of just $158. Moreover, Digitimes' sources claim rivals CHL and CHA are likely to follow suit. The arrival of cheaper Android phones could prove a headache for local chipmaker Spreadtrum (SPRD), which has a weak position in the smartphone processor market. (previously)

This is the best news for SPRD since they provide the lowest cost platform for 3G and 2.5G Android Phones. Especially for China Mobile, SPRD's 1GHz TD-SCDMA 3G Android phone is under $100. That's the biggest volume driver.
