Interest in "big data" analytics projects is surging, and if a Linux Foundation survey is accurate, companies launching them are at least twice as likely to rely on Linux servers as they are Windows or Unix servers. Enterprise Linux giant Red Hat (RHT) bolstered its big data offerings last year by acquiring Gluster, a developer of a scalable storage file system for Linux servers. (also)
