American Eagle Outfitters (AEO -0.6%) has its eyes on omnichannel marketing. Execs say the key for the retailer is to blur the lines between the mediums of e-mail and mobile to integrate the two channels. Indicative of some success in the area, the company reports significantly higher engagement rates and e-mail click-throughs. Despite disappointing comparable-store sales last quarter, online sales held their own during the period.

Every major retailer wants to be an Omni channel retailer. there is an underlying problem that no retailer wants to address publicly. Sales are migrating from stores to e-commerce at a very fast pace.
When reviewing a stores comps, dig down and look at the brick and mortar comp without the e-tailing revenue added.
Bottom line is that retailers don't want to face the fact that their stores are no longer interesting and inviting to the millennial shopper. There is an answer but enough for now.
