More Microsoft (MSFT +0.7%) news on day 2 of BUILD: 1) Microsoft is giving Windows Azure clients the ability to automatically scale capacity. This follows the arrival of per-minute billing to Azure, which is said to be adding 1K+ customers/day. Top rival Amazon Web Services (AMZN) already supports auto scaling, but bills by the hour. 2) Microsoft says 8.5T objects are now stored on Azure, up from 4T a year ago; that Skype now has 299M active users (up from 177M in early '11); and that Xbox Live and the Office Web apps each have nearly 50M users. 3) IE11 is being previewed; it offers a slew of touch optimizations and better performance. StatCounter's figures indicate IE is still losing share to Chrome. 4) Skype is built into Windows 8.1, replacing the Messenger app. (previous)
