Japanese industrial production comfortably topped expectations in May, rising 2% on month vs +0.9% in April and +0.2% consensus. Output grew for the fourth consecutive month, helped by demand from power companies. Retail sales increased for the first time since December, rising 0.8% on year vs -0.2% in April and consensus of unchanged. Unemployment was steady at 4.1% vs consensus of 4%. However, household spending dropped 1.6% on year vs +1.5% previously and forecasts of +1.4%. (PR)
