"Alcoa Inc (AA) reported a larger second-quarter net loss on Monday, largely due to restructuring costs and a legacy legal matter.
The company said its net loss in the quarter ended June 30 was $119 million, or 11 cents per share. That compares with a loss of $2 million, or break-even per share, a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items, the company reported earnings of $76 million, or 7 cents a share."

Didn't expect that at all. Not terrible. I'm averaged in at just under $10, so still a ways to go.

A good surprise. I'm in the stock(long) just north of $10.00 I still believe that sheet aluminum will be used for bodies of cars in near future. AA just built a sheet aluminum plant, hmmm! I wonder why????????????????

Not sure why,but SA always tries to put a negative spin on any
report with their headlines. Why not AA beat by a one cent earnings

No negative spin - the report is what it is - YoY unadjusted below last year. Some of us are tired of the gaming with one-time charges, etc.

Alcoa’s adjusted EPS beat the consensus estimate by a penny, while revenues were just a shade light. But cutting production and firing staff is not a recipe for growth, and that’s the recipe that the company plans to follow for the next couple of quarters at least.

Last week’s closure of Alcoa’s Fucina smelter in Italy looks like it might have been timed to juice the company’s results just enough to meet the consensus EPS estimate.

You're absolutely right. It's all downward revisions of consensus estimates. Look at the chart of aluminum production and forward prices. Spread is huge.
