Self-driving cars might seem 100 years away when considering how to solve the insurance pickle, but that's not stopping optimists like Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster from seeing the upside. The analyst cites the huge productivity gains and safety advantages that autonomous solutions could bring before making an exceedingly rosy forecast on the self-driving car timetable. Though the auto industry is beginning to increase their focus on R&D for self-driving technology, Google's passionate push in the area might have the efforts of interested automakers such as General Motors (GM), BMW (BAMXY.PK), Audi (VLKAY.PK), and Nissan (NSANY.OB) appearing small in its rear-view mirror.

Yeah awesome, you won't be able to drive anywhere without a record of it being made plus you will be targeted by ads in the car depending on where you go. Hope I'm dead before that happens.

I'm not particularly concerned if they know how many times I go to the ice cream store in a week, as for ads I'm not sure how they could force you to listen/watch them in a car... center console display perhaps but having headphones in and closing your eyes is just to easy to get around that...

It figures my pals @ GM still behind the times as we know Google already has been running for over a year! Maybe Tesla can beat them at this too...
