More on Microsoft's (MSFT) reorg: Office chief Kurt DelBene is retiring, and advisor Craig Mundie is leaving the senior leadership team. Microsoft will be split along functional lines, such as engineering, sales, finance,and HR, that cross product boundaries. CTO Eric Rudder will run an Advanced Strategy & Research unit, Windows exec Tami Reller will head marketing, and COO Kevin Turner will continue to handle worldwide sales (but not marketing). Ballmer: "We will see our product line holistically, not as a set of islands." Sources tell Kara Swisher Microsoft might also see big changes in financial reporting, ones that could shield the performance of struggling units from investors' eyes. (the memos) (also)

    They must be learning from their buddies over at Google, who go so far as breaking their business down into two groups - Google & Motorola - for financial reporting. Quite difficult to analyze the performance of Google Docs, Google Wallet, Google TV, etc, without any disclsoures in the 10-K...
