Specs and press photos for the Lumia 1020 have leaked ahead of Nokia's (NOK -0.6%) 11AM ET event. The phone's camera will offer optical image stabilization, a xenon flash, advanced manual controls, and a new Pro Camera app to go with its expected 41MP sensor. The 1020 will also have a 4.5", 1280x768, OLED dsplay, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens, and a dual-core, 1.5GHz., Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Windows Phone Central reports AT&T will sell the 1020 for a hefty $299 with a 2-year contract ($100 more than the iPhone 5 or Galaxy S4), and that the phone's unsubsidized price is $699. (live blog)

Buy the black or white one instead.

Quite impressive specs! Better than my current digital camera, and far more compact. I suspect if NOK makes 1m of these per month, they will sell 1m per month. There's a niche market for a high end camera phone, and although I believe that market could be up to 100 million customers large, I don't believe all those customers will want WP8, and I don't believe all will have contracts expiring right at this moment. Still, it's yet another Lumia adding to the bottom line! With the wide range of models that NOK is rolling out (at many pricepoints), I don't see how their market share could go anywhere but up. The question is, will it go up fast enough to satisfy the market?

Have the 920 in matte Cyan but Process A Yellow is my color so I want it in yellow. Will sell the 920 and get a yellow 1020 day one.

You couldn't even read a screen that size at 1080. The problem is that they need to offer 1080p for external monitors.

People like bashing NOK for some reason, but from the user comments I have been reading on other sites NOK phones are a winner. It is still going to be a bright and shinning Christmas.

$299 ist zu teuer für eine unbewiesene Produkt. Und ich hoffe, dass es Stereo-Aufnahme-Funkti... hat.

$ 299 is too expensive for an unproven product. And I hope that stereo recording function ... has.

The price mentioned above is the same as the same iPhone with 32GB of storage. The retail price, at least what AT & T lists as retail, would make the Nokia $50 cheaper. There is a iPhone that is cheaper and one more expensive based simply on the hard drive.

If you watched the Q & A session that followed, the reporter from Forbes.com asked a very pointed question to Elop about AT & T being a terrible partner. She said she owned the 920, loved it, could hardly believe the poor training and indifference from AT & T when she visited their stores following the 920 launch.

I had not heard Elop before, handled the difficult question with aplomb, saying it was Nokia's responsibility to be sure their were enough materials, training, marketing and that it would be a concerted push by (initially) MSFT, NOK & ATT and then with the other partners, including Telefonica, as they expanded worldwide. Personally, I would think that AT & T needed to see that the Win8 was worthwhile, not that NOK just had something new. Perhaps they will push it hard, good competition helps benefit their business because the Big Two and the Aspiring One will obviously play hardball here.

I noticed that too, excellent answer from Elop to a tough question. It is Nokia's responsibility that AT&T sucks in promoting Lumia. Nokia needs to work harder in training sales people. The puck stops here.

I liked the fact that AT&T's senior vice president of devises was there to hear that question. Maybe put a little fire under his a$$.

When Walmart and the new MS Nokia stores open and the phones start selling, AT&T will then have to start paying attention, or lose phone sales and revenue.

    Seppo,

I ran across something a few days ago regarding investments that MSFT had made over the years. Some were great (Facebook); others foolish. One that stood out was an investment in AT & T. We tend to think of it as the 'old' AT & T but it is Southwest Bell + a lot of fragmented businesses that were acquired to build a national wireless network.

I have been a customer nearly all my adult life. My current phone is a Samsung and there had been a glitch with the software not updating properly, so I took it to one of the only device service centers in Seattle and they deduced it was faulty and gave me a new phone, could not have been nicer.

After learning what NOK was doing with their strategy, I followed the intro of the 920 and was hugely disappointed with the local indifference to the launch and the AT & T website barely noting the availability of Windows phones. I did go buy my GF a NOK at T-Mobile and the experience was almost opposite. They were actively pushing Nokia that day and it was making a big difference in the number flowing out the door. I had the feeling that many people coming in without a secure idea of what they wanted - MUST have iPhone! - would at least seriously compare the Nokia with other similar models.

So the fellow from AT & T was on today's live intro for the 1020 and promised they had been working together all this time and were excited to bring a new era of phone technology to the market. All I can say is I hope in this marketing cycle AT & T has a "Jerry Maguire moment."

Jerry Maquire was a sports agent in a successful film from 1996. His single important client was being pursued by several other agents and what he wanted from Jerry was what athletes thrive on - money. The surviving quote "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!" is still in popular use.

Really hope this phone is as good as I think it could be. I use my phone camera frequently on my Note 2 mostly because it is with me most of the time and a great tool.
My only fear on the Nokia phones are my IT buddy had the 920 and the display glass got a large scratch on it in the first week of use and then failed after 2 months (died). He was able to trade for an iphone5 (I will never forgive him ;-)).
The Note resides in my pocket and I have had some very small scratches on it as well. It does still work however (after 8 months) and would probably opt for insurance on the Nokia just to be protected in case of failure even though the Note has none.
How about some more color options!
Could mean some good movement in NOK.
Is there a way to take credit cards with W8 yet?
That would be my last hurdle.

    Lockman,

The CEO from Square said they would go there (haven't yet) and one company has a model working with some of the 800-900 models.

Last week we had a great dinner with good friends in Portugal. They took several pictures with their Samsung Galaxy s4. What a disappointment, all the pictures were blurry and vague. They are now awaiting the sale of the Lumia 2010 in Europe, since they expect much of it.
