Japan has been going to the polls today to vote on half of the 242 seats in the Upper House of parliament, with the bloc led by the Liberal Democratic Party of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expected to win a hefty majority. That would add to the control that the LDP has in the Lower House and make it easier for the government to pass its aggressive three-pronged economic reform program. However, despite Abe's progress so far, skeptics wonder whether he has the stomach to take on the vested interests that might try to bloc his agenda.

Shinzo Abe should not be rewarded for trying to print his way to prosperity.
