Portugal's President Aníbal Cavaco Silva is due to decide today how to proceed after the country's three main political parties failed to agree to a "national salvation pact" amid turmoil over the austerity policies required as part of the Troika bailout. Silva, who is due to address the nation this evening, could let the weakened coalition continue to rule or call new elections, although he's already warned against the latter. The government yesterday said it would press on with trying to meet the bailout targets.
