Boosting economic growth should be given priority over cutting deficits - no, that's not an assertion from France but from none other than German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble. The just-finished G20 summit sent "an important signal, namely that we all agree that the most important task is to strengthen growth and create jobs," Schaeuble said. The meeting of finance ministers and central bankers laid the groundwork for discussions on fiscal policies when G20 leaders meet in September, including on country specific debt targets. (previous)

Japan is spending more in GDP deficit financing than they are gaining in GDP growth.

I'm going to have to see a few more announcements in the same vein before I pop open the champagne and toast German capitulation.

I hope it sticks and for the next few generations the word austerity becomes a dirty one.

Exactly, Japan has tried this with nothing to show. It's time for nations to live within their means.

Finally the idiots have figured it out. The key though is not more money spent it is strctural and fiscal reform.

In Europe austerity meands raising taxes, do little on spending and leave the rest of the economy alone. That does not work and is the exact opposite of what they must do. Which is to push hard on reform, for the time being do little on spending and lower taxes.

You do grown when you live within your means. Don't sell the future to someone else.
