The Nikkei falls nearly 2% as the yen rises 0.32% against the dollar to ¥98.96, even as data shows consumer prices ex-fresh food (core CPI) rose 0.4% in Japan last month, above expectations and the first increase since April of last year. Elsewhere in the region, Australian and South Korean equities post fractional gains, the Shanghai Composite drifts lower and the Hang Seng is up 0.5% in early trading.
