President Barack Obama has narrowed down the list of candidates to replace Ben Bernanke as Chairman of the Fed to "some extraordinary candidates," Obama has told the NYT, and plans to make the choice "over the next several months." The President wants not just somebody who will keep inflation in check and ensure market stability, but also someone who can "step back and look at that objectively and say, 'Let's make sure that we're growing the economy.'" The leading candidates are reportedly Janet Yellen and Larry Summers. (Interview transcript)
