Wedbush defends Universal Display, says Novaled not a threat

  • The firm asserts Novaled provides materials for "the electron and hole injecting and transport layers" of an OLED display. Whereas Universal Display (OLED -6.9%) provides host/emitter materials.
  • Universal shares are bouncing from the day's lows, but are still off sharply.
  • Previous: Samsung reportedly close to buying Novaled
  • Update: Oppenheimer is also defending Universal. Its arguments mirror Wedbush's.

OLED is still far from able to commercialize in any big way . We will have to wait until 2016 to see any meaningful revenues growth. OLED is still so miniscule that nobody will really care when it reports first big gain in revenue which is not likely until 2015 at soonest. OLED technology is terribly expensive! The big money will come from OLED HDTVs not smartphones. OLED will collect only pennies per screen on a smartphone.
