Market recap: Stocks tepid ahead of FOMC, but Nasdaq notches new highs


Stocks were little changed as investors remained cautious ahead of Fed guidance tomorrow at its policy meeting and the first reading of Q2 GDP.

Tech strength pushed Nasdaq to a fresh 12-year high, boosted by gains in Apple and Facebook.

The materials sector was pressured by fertilizer companies after Russia's top potash producer withdrew from a potash cartel.

Crude oil fell to its first sub-$104 close in three weeks; gold gave up 0.4% to $1,324.80.
