More on U.K.'s probe of Google-Waze deal

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is asking for comment on whether the $1B transaction will cross its merger control thresholds. The regulator could launch a wider review if it decides that the deal will reduce competition substantially.

The process could lead to three outcomes: the OFT could clear the acquisition, give it conditional clearance that requires Google (GOOG) to make divestments, or refer it to the Competition Commission, the senior regulator.

The OFT's inquiry adds to a probe by the FTC. (Previous)
