Infosys Americas chief/board member resigns

Ashok Vemuri, Infosys' (INFY) Americas chief and also the outsourcing giant's global head of manufacturing/engineering services, has resigned from his position, and from Infosys' board. Regional North American manufacturing chief Sanjay Jalona will become Infosys' new global head of manufacturing.

Vemuri was viewed as a possible CEO candidate, once current CEO S.D. Shibulal's term ended in 2015.

His resignation comes less than 3 months after co-founder Narayana Murthy returned as chairman, and as Infosys and other outsourcing firms continue to closely watch an immigration bill that could significantly increase the number of granted H-1B visas, but also restrict the ability of visa holders to visit U.S. client locations.

Shares -1.6% premarket.

Update: There's speculation Vemuri is looking to become the CEO of fellow outsourcing firm iGATE.
