Report: J.C. Penney to end Martha Stewart partnership

  • J.C. Penney (JCP) will end its partnership with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSO) to effectively end the drama of a courtroom battle involving the two companies and Macy's, according to The New York Post.
  • Sources indicate J.C. Penney CEO Mike Ullman isn't a huge fan of Martha Stewart, letting it be known her company's designs aren't anything special.

Glad to see Mike throwing aside another Ackman/Johnson idiot idea which was part of their plan to sink JCP. Ackman did not leave on his own as many in the investment fictional news stories try to romanticize. Ackman had to get Ullman's wingtip removed from his backside by doctors.

This was one of the big blunders of JCP mgmt. by paying to much attention to a product that is not what I call a cash cow. Now when will they make that ultimate turn that brings them back into the living.

I never understood what the appeal of Martha Stewart was and I am not seeing how Macy's is doing so well with her brand? I agree with Mr. Ullman when he states her merchandise isn't anything special.

The home stores at JCP are confusing with all the small shops and items are on the high side in comparison to other retail outlets. Honestly, people just don't have the extra money to buy designer home items these days even though some of them are nicer looking. I look for JCP for quality and value.

Personal story here. A friend of my mom was over yesterday and they were talking about her blouse and she said she got it at JCP but then she lamented that they don't have sale notifications in the mail anymore and that those were what got her into the store. You gotta figure there are a lot of people like that. Unfortunately, she was still the old lady clientele, they need some youngins in there too.

sugar....but yet when we mailed out 569 coupons per year the customers literally would threaten the associates if we did not stop sending coupons! We directed them to Corporate to get their mailing stopped as we had NO control over such things.

    I don't understand.

Then, the second we stopped sending coupons and lowered our prices as to reflect the no coupons policy the same customers began screaming because we did not send coupons anymore. I really don't understand.

The only problem our store has with the MS merchandise is it's price. EVERYONE wants it. But only a few can afford her merchandise and yes...it IS better quality. Trust me, it is.

Its too bad all the employees standing in line for unemployment had to pay for all Johnson and Ackman's greedy mistakes. Bet there severance packages were adjusted to make room for Ron's and his pied pipers.

That is so true. We lost so much of our good experienced help. It is a nightmare now of the new LOD's --- many promoted from within JCP. Many of these LODS/managers are "giving away" the store. Passing out gift cards seems to be the norm now.

It seems the faster the associates in my store try to sell merchandise....the faster the LOD'S can give it away to avoid any confrontation no matter how justified.

Mike should rehire his old department managers and demote a whole bunch of people back to where ever they came. Having experienced people is critical now. They will help us survive.

Good riddance to another loser brought to you by Ron Johnson. Martha Stewart is like yesterdays soup. Cold and stale. Let's put this square footage in something that sell and produces profits for JC Penney. Maybe next on the chopping block will be Jonathan Adler and Sir Terrance Conran that have been an utter failure in furniture and soft home.

    So true bakmanone.
Surely the vast majority of JCP customers have no idea who Ackman/Johnson favey faves Jonathan Adler and Sir Terrance Conran are. That being said they would have no reason to pay Sax 5th Avenue prices for their merchandise in a JCP store.
What a bunch of bozos Ackman/Johnson were.
    Good riddance already!!!!

Mike Ullman is the right leader and steward. His team can hire consultants for vision ideas.
