Immersion haptic tech used in Samsung smartwatch

Immersion's (IMMR -1%) TouchSense haptic feedback platform is used to provide "optimized tactile effects and notifications" for Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which was announced last week. The news comes 6 months after Immersion announced a major licensing deal with Samsung for its basic haptics IP.

Given the nascent state of the smartwatch market and the fact early hands-on impressions for the Gear have been mixed, initial Gear volumes are likely to be much lower than those for marquee Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy S4 and Note 3.

Last week, Immersion announced a multi-year licensing deal with Xiaomi, and that Xiaomi's new flagship Mi3 smartphone leverages TouchSense.
