New Chevrolet Silverado impresses critics

  • General Motors (GM) sees its Chevrolet Silverado edge out the Chrysler (FIATY.PK) Ram 1500 in a road test conducted by Consumer Reports.
  • The distinction could be an important selling point after the model underwent its first major design change since 2006.
  • "The reality is that you can't go wrong with either one," says a rep from CR.

The Silverado has always been the most rugged truck. It may not have had the prettiest interior, but what really counts is cost of maintenance and longevity. Next to it I would place the Ram and then the Ford F150. It's not hard to figure that the Ecoboost engine will not have the durability of a non turbo engine. As a long term engine I see huge expenses when it gets a large amount of miles. You may ask, then why do they sell so many. The answer is Ford has much better marketing than it's competitions.

Having worked in construction and logging for many years, using all manner of light trucks, the Ford F series outworks the others. Dodges have impressive powertrains but have more maintenance and repair costs. Chevs look good and are nice on the highway, but will not work as hard as the others.
