New highs for Himax, Oppenheimer reports of broader LCOS interest

  • After meeting with Himax's (HIMX +5%) management, Oppenheimer declares management's tone has become even more bullish over the last two weeks, and reports the Google Glass design win has led to "significant" interest in Himax's LCOS microdisplay solutions from other firms.
  • Two weeks ago, Oppenheimer lifted its Himax PT to $12 from $9, and gushed over a better-than-expected outlook for the LCOS business. The note followed a similar one from Craig-Hallum.
  • Shares have made new highs, and are now up nearly 4x YTD.

  • Believe 12 is not the limit, rather a short term goal - long with HIMX, 12 by year end, with good outlook of the economy - 20 in 9-12 months (if google glass picks up faster, sky is the limit)

  • Still think there may be some other potential customers, such like Microsoft or Sony. If that's true, nothing can stop HIMX setting up to sky. But for now, 12 is way too high, it may drop down a little bit these days.

  • Yes, on all of these except the small fortune bit as mine is moderate and growing larger each day (bought most of my shares at $1.90 (Nov 2012) and $2.80 (Feb 2013) with only a few added at $5 during the Innolux sale (to finance their plant expansion).

All jokes aside, HIMX is more than just Google Glass in two aspects.

    1. They have a whole business outside of LCoS (See their September Investor's Presentation at their website). $737 million in FY 2012 without much or any LCoS.

    2. LCoS is not just Google Glasses (or even head mounted displays as auto HUD's will eventaully be a good market also). Read this:

  • Hey shashi.24,

See Mark's reply to his recent article on SA about HIMX where he thinks it could be $20 in 18 to 20 months. This is similar to my projections also..........and recall that HIMX pays an annual dividend in July.

Google is taking their Glasses on tour starting with Durham NC (home to Duke and UNC) on 5-Oct. This is a great way to build up practical interest in Google Glasses. Google is also contracting for space inside Best Buy which is quicker and more efficient than establishing their own stores (such as Apple).

I see lots of good things ahead for HIMX. Micosoft, Sony and Oculus should soon be releasing their own Gaming Goggles soon and the reviews on the Oculus have been good...........not just the product but how it makes gaming more 'immersive'.

Think about it. Turning your head when playing an HDTV takes your head away from the screen...........but with Gaming Googles, it gives you another view (literally) which adds another dimension to gaming.
