Judge accepts Halliburton's guilty plea, spill investigation closed

Halliburton (HAL -0.2%) says the Justice Department has closed its investigation of the company's role related to the Macondo well incident.

The federal judge accepted the single misdemeanor guilty plea for the unauthorized deletion of a computer record that was created after the well incident; a fine of $200K and three years' probation was imposed. (earlier)

The DOJ said HAL was cooperative throughout the investigation, which means the government would seem less likely to suspend HAL from securing new federal contracts.
