Merkel wins German election, coalition partner falls short: Exit polls

|By:, SA News Editor

Exit polls suggest Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union has won 42.5% of the vote in Germany's federal elections.

The Chancellor's FDP coalition partner is lagging with just 4.5%. That's less than the 5% needed to secure representation in the Bundestag.

The results are a vote of confidence for Merkel's handling of the debt crisis that has plagued the eurozone for the past several years.
