Reuters: Nestle considering sale of PowerBar

Nestle (NSRGY.PK) is looking to divest its PowerBar energy bars, Reuters reports, in a sale that could fetch several hundred million dollars.

The brand, which generates ~$175M in revenue, includes a range of energy bars, sports drinks, gels and protein supplements but is facing increasing competition from other brands with wider appeal such as Clif Bar and Kind Healthy Snacks.

Nestle's results have disappointed for several quarters, and the company has said it is looking at its 8,000 brands for laggards; in addition to PowerBar, analysts have pointed to Jenny Craig and Lean Cuisine as possible candidates for pruning.
