- Palo Alto Networks (PANW) discloses it has filed suit against Juniper (JNPR) in a Northern California district court, alleging the networking hardware vendor's products infringe 3 of its patents.
- Juniper sued Palo Alto back in 2011, alleging latter's next-gen firewalls infringe 6 patents developed by Palo Alto's founders when they were working for NetScreen (acquired by Juniper in '04). Juniper later added other patents to the suit, which has been weighing on Palo Alto investors' minds. A trial is set to begin in early 2014.
- Juniper, whose security unit has been losing ground to Palo Alto and others, has rolled out its own next-gen firewalls. There's a good chance Palo Alto's suit covers those products.
