Seeking Alpha

Seeking Alpha is back up and running!

  • Yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 3) Seeking Alpha was partially functional at best. Due to a human error on our side, for much of the day SA users were unable to log in to view their portfolios, contributors were unable to submit articles, and Market Currents editors were unable to keep users up to date with breaking news.
  • Our team was up most of the night, and have now restored full functionality. No user data was harmed or compromised.
  • We screwed up, and we're sorry. The downtime was not planned. Having addressed the immediate issue, we are launching a post mortem to pinpoint what went wrong, and how we can prevent a repeat. If you see any ongoing weirdness, please let us know.

I think our friend @Renmycat! said it best: "felt like an addict in withdrawal all day long!"

I, for one, forgive you guys though ... mistakes happen, they've been rare and the awesome SA team provides such an awesome service that you guys (and gals) really could do no wrong, in my book. Cheers.

Thank you SA for your blunt candor. After suffering through 5 years of a President whose rally cry was "its not my fault" it is extremely refreshing to see you guys just step up to the plate and say "we screwed up." Although we stock news junkies were left fiending and scratching our arms yesterday, im sure were all relieved to know SA is back up and running. Now, dont let it happen again ;)

The only ‘weirdness’ I can see is someone owning up to their own errors. How un-American (these days at least) of SA!!

Glad to see it back up and running.

In situations like this, it's easy to realize which sites are truely important. Even in a remote, tiny village in the Swiss Alps, someone was missing the site badly. Glad you fixed it quickly! And anyway, thank you for the exceptionally good work you are doing.

I thought the internet was shut down due to government shut down. I mean Al Gore invented it and the government runs it from the NSA facility in Utah - right. The only thing I can't figure out is how that hidden drug internet site (Silk Road) functioned so long without the NSA finding out and telling the FBI - what's up with that?

This is the message I got from Obamacare's healthcare.gov today (day 3)

"We have a lot of visitors on the site right now. Please stay on this page. We're working to make the experience better, and we don’t want you to lose your place in line."

Wait. Did that last line actually say that you're in some sort of virtual "line"? boy... don't want to close that browser page or I might loose my "place in line"

I think I speak for many when I say that I really missed not being able to be on the site yesterday afternoon/evening.
    Things I missed most:
    1) My feed
    2) market currents
    3) reading various articles
4)Not being able to send in an article I was ready to send in

Glass half full look:SA has become a must have financial website. At least for me it has.
