BlackBerry settles with WiLAN

A day after announcing it has settled a patent dispute with mobile messaging startup Kik, BlackBerry (BBRY) says it has settled all outstanding disputes with WiLAN (WILN). (PR)

BlackBerry has "obtained a license to certain patents" asserted by WiLAN in a Florida suit, and the companies will "pursue licensing discussions regarding certain other wireless technologies."

WILN +4% premarket. Shares jumped last month after the company announced a licensing deal with HTC.

It could be both, but at least it's good to see that they are still functioning as a company? Morale must be abysmal there!

Rimm invented very little. they bought patents from inventors. Morale???? Layoffs begin today. Rimm and some employees targets of several new lawsuits. Lawyers will pick the bones clean. Sad for investors and the workers. They got taken for a ride by this shoddy second rate outfit.

The worst has yet to come. If there's anything Blackberry is notorious for recently, is missing estimation by a mile. Whoever thinks after the 40% layoff, the company will be "right sized" is out of their minds. Think of it this way. After the 40% layoff, Blackberry will still have 8000 workers. After their device division whines down, does it take 8000 people to operate BES and BBM? To put things into perspective, Whatsapp only has 45 employees.
