- The Pentagon intends to focus exclusively on the main high-tech helmet for the F35 that is being developed by Rockwell Collins (COL) and Israel's Elbit Systems (ESLT), and to stop working on a back-up product that BAE Systems was designing.
- The Rockwell-Elbit product has had its fair share of problems, but improvements such as a better night-vision camera allowed the Pentagon to make the decision, which will also save $45M.
- The helmet uses data from the F35's cameras and other sensors in the visor to let pilots to virtually see through the wings and floor of the plane.
