General Motors sneaks in some price hikes

General Motors (GM -0.5%) is quietly raising prices on the new line of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups it's selling, according to The Detroit News.

Though a GM spokesperson says a $1,500 on hike on trim models was planned, it appears that overall pricing is closer to $2K over the original sticker amount from early in the summer on some models.

The big picture: The price hikes from GM is another confirmation that the boost in sales seen this year for the automaker isn't tied to promotion activity, while also allowing it to offer buyers new "incentives" this fall which won't pinch margins on a net basis.
