Profitability may be falling at some U.S. companies, but others are expanding domestic capacity to meet rising demand. “It is an environment that feels like it is building momentum,” United Rentals (URI) CFO William Plummer says. Rising labor costs in China are helping. Carlisle (CSL) CEO Dave Roberts now finds it “as cheap to manufacture in the U.S. as China.”
