    There's a shock (can you hear the sarcasm in my banging keys?). The shut-down hurt more people than seems to be commonly realized, and while the deficit ceiling battle didn't hit anyone's bank or brokerage accounts it still added to a sense of gloom about the future. Good luck, Christmas retailers. More people are going to try to hold on to what few dollars they can.

    "The shut-down hurt more people than seems to be commonly realized" ... I agree, the damage done to WW2 vets trying to tour DC and to domestic and foreign tourists trying to visit Yellowstone and being held hostage in the lodge needs to be more commonly realized, and those responsible for those indignations need to be "hurt" with summary dismissal and loss of health care and pension benefits.
