Northern Gateway pipeline least likely for approval, analysts say

  • Enbridge’s (ENB -1%) Northern Gateway stands the least chance of being approved among all of Canada's proposed pipelines, analysts tell a Financial Post panel discussion.
  • TransCanada's (TRP) Energy East and Kinder Morgan’s (KMI, KMP) Trans Mountain are most likely, with the latter benefiting from having built the loop through Jasper before pipeline opposition escalated, one participant says.
  • Another believes that a rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline would not slow down Canadian oil production, given the other pipeline options and growing crude-by-rail shipments, but rejection would mean rising transportation costs.

'Rising transportation costs'? That is part of the price of dithering! I think you will meet some more of the costs Nov 2014.

Without the XL pipeline crossing the boarder from Canada isn't that great news for the oil in North Dakota? Let the Canadians put the tar sand oil on the transMountain pipeline.

    Long KMP.

    Ruffdog,

Do you know where the oil in the Trans-Mountain pipeline is delivered to? I don't think you do. It may surprise you.

And by the way, tar comes from trees not oil or sand. Also do you prefer heavy oil from Argentina or from Canada? Take your pick or would you prefer to continue receiving some from both?

If the XL pipeline isn't built, will the crude be transported into the US by rail? Is it already being imported by rail?

Maybe the Energy East project will offer an on ramp to Bakken oil. Just a short pipe to Canada and the ocean awaits! Sell Bakken oil to the WORLD!

Better than a discounted sale and putting money in Buffet's pockets.
