BBM Android/iOS downloads pass 20M

Eight days after officially launching its Android/iOS BBM apps and a week after announcing downloads had passed 10M, BlackBerry (BBRY +1.1%) announces downloads have topped 20M. That, in turn, has increased the size of BBM's base (includes ~60M users on BlackBerry phones) to 80M+ monthly active users (MAUs).

BlackBerry adds the Android app topped Google Play's free app rankings in 35 countries during its first week, and the iOS apps topped the App Store's free app rankings in 107 countries.

The download activity comes in spite of critical/muted reviews that tend to highlight missing features.

BBM is still ranked at #2 on App Annie's U.S. iPhone free download chart, and #6 on its U.S. Google Play free download chart.

Mobile messaging leader WhatsApp has 350M+ MAUs.

Not bad. As long as this continues up to 40 million, they have a big chance of it being successful.

I went deep on this one and added android/apple BBM users. Joined groups, connected to new contacts. Found them by leveraging my Google+ following bace of 30,000.

Go BBM go!, we need 100 Million apps in Android and iOS before the end of the year, so we can shut down the critical voices that are still everywhere today!
Had been BBRY really doing anything right during the last few weeks?
Is anybody there that likes the Z30?

I won't lie, if BBM and their OS becomes more open source, better apps, I would go back to Blackberry in a heart beat. Always was a berry guy, especially cause there a KEYBOARD and not I'm not pressing 3-5 different letters and back spacing all the damn time.

Had to settle for the iPhone. - This proves the mountain of interest in bbm, it's still alive. The company messed up yes up in execution, yes, but I hope they keep this up, work with android or whoever with a cross platform store. Good job, keep it up.

BlackBerry was smart to create it's software to run and operate on other people platforms.

I was just downloading something else and noticed that BBM is down to #10 now.

users are pretty much useless in Indonesia, Phllipines, Egypt, etc. You're not going to get much value from that user base.
