  • Yes. Much more important than doing anything will be gauging the market's reaction to talking about it. When the market stops reacting much, then the taper threat will be real.

  • A booster a self congratulating name for QExxx that has spurred america to her most anemic recovery in recent memory.

The FED has become a caricature of itself.

  • I think "booster rocket" must be some street term from shooting dope or smoking meth. You get a short-term high that makes you feel great, then you crash back to reality and feel worse than you did before.

Why do you think the QE hits get bigger and bigger each time? This Fed junkie market "just needs the juice baby - just one more time and I'll go clean, I promise!"

The DTs when (if?) this night train ever ends will be rough.

  • Why even report it, TAPER WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!! if anything QE will be increased in December.

    1. "it's a house of cards
    2. the fed and this administration don't have the guts to do the right thing

  • Are you implying that the next Administration WILL have the 'guts to do the right thing' (whatever that is!) I think not; whatever political party is in power will continue to pay lip service to fiscal reform while pandering to the many entities which have vested interests in our present tax system.... a/k/a: it ain't gona happen

  • Oxyman, I agree that none of "them" have the will or guts to cut taxes or entitlements. That decision will be made for them by the market and depending on how one is positioned it could be fun to watch. I have my popcorn ready :-)

  • They can talk all they want, once the 10 yr. hits above 3% they will backpedal. FED can't afford to have rates go up. They're trapped as I've said all along.

  • So Lockhart thinks that right before he leaves Ben kicks off the no. And maybe Lockhart thinks Yellen's first official act should be to kick off the taper in no. Fool me 25 times.....

  • You know, with all the "newspeak" going on these days ("if you like your plan..."), I think I just figured out what the new definition of "Taper" is:

We keep thinking about taper being a reduction from $85B to a number less than $85B. But what if taper is really a change in the percentage growth of the Fed's balance sheet? You see, when the BS was at $3 Trill, $85B per month represented about a 2.8% expansion of the BS each month.

Now, with the BS at $4T, they can "reduce'" the monthly expansion to only 2.5%, which results in a $100B per month QE.

See - it's less per month!

  • the FED is a joke...whether they decide to "T" or not "T"--they've only facilitated messing up this country more than it already was...

  • Unfortunately, the FED is humorous, but the problem starts from the top... In this case the very top...and that's the big joke.

  • In my personal thinking, the Federal Reserve want's to taper, but is smart in getting market reactions of their comments. But the wild card is that they are crying "wolf" too many times. With the stock market at near record highs, I do not want to be the last one in.

  • Ridiculous! We all know there is no way the FED will taper in Dec. The last thing they want to do is shoot the markets in the foot right before the Holidays. More likely they will still be printing at the current rate or more a year from now. I hope I am wrong, but I think they will keep right on driving till the wheels fall off.
