Bloomberg: Uralkali sale could happen as soon as next week

  • Suleiman Kerimov and his business partners, who jointly control ~33% of potash maker Uralkali (URALL), may reach an agreement to sell the stake as soon as next week, Bloomberg reports.
  • Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim Group is the front-runner to take control, according to the report; the stake has a value of ~$5B.
  • POT +1%, MOS +0.8%, AGU +0.3%, SQM +0.2%, IPI +0.2%.
  • ETFs: MOO, CROP, PAGG, VEGI.

    And when they put the cartel back together the week after that all those names jump 15%.

    i wonder whether the cartel coming back will in fact be a positive catalyst. There has been so much chatter about it eventually coming back that it may be priced in. Mkt seems to me to be looking for other positives - i.e actual stabilization in price and volume - just a thought

    The commentary I've heard from CEOs is that buyers have stepped away from the market for potash, expecting lower prices. If the cartel comes back, that hope of lower prices goes away, and buyers step back in.

    IPI rallied, but POT and MOS hardly gained. I agree with you MM, but why didn't all the potash stocks rally accordingly? I figured POT would shoot straight through resistance at $33.20. Not sure what to think at this point.
