AT&T's U-verse Internet subs top 10M

  • AT&T (T +0.3%) announces it now has 10M+ U-verse Internet subs. That's up from the 9.7M the company had at the end of Q3, a quarter in which it added 655K U-verse Internet subs. (PR)
  • Ma Bell's U-verse Internet base (60% of its entire wireline broadband base at the end of Q3) is much larger than its U-verse TV base (5.3M at the end of Q3, up 265K Q/Q), and its growth has been crucial to minimizing wireline revenue declines in the face of ongoing voice revenue drops.
  • AT&T's total wireline revenue fell 1% Y/Y in Q3, due in no small part to an 11.7% drop in voice connections to 29.3M. But thanks in large part to U-verse, consumer wireline revenue grew 2.4%.

This bodes well for T, as they know they have to get away from just the telephone business; it probably won't be offering high growth margins into the future (at least in the U.S.).
