For some oil refiners, the most reliable way to make money lately involves selling Slim Jims and soda. Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC), Tesoro (TSO) and Sunoco (NYSE:SUN) recorded nine-figure losses tied to refining and fuel marketing in Q4, but they made tidy sums in retail units.
