A Talented Blonde on retail

The Talented Blonde gives her read on Black Friday in a YouTube short (video).

The retail analyst predicts a rocky Black Friday sales that will be worse than people think as a sense of "desperation" pervades the sector.

Her most interesting take is that Wal-Mart (WMT +0.7%) consumers are trading down to the dollar store group (DG, DLTR, FDO) based on the signals being sent out in retail. Channel checks from investment firms haven't borne out that thesis yet.

On the high end, things are calmer for brands selling in a unique space. Michael Kors (KORS -0.7%) comes right to mind.

Much rather shop DG, FDO or FRED than WMT. Same stuff, easier to shop and much cheaper. Rural people don't drive past DG to go to WMT. I certainly won't...
