General Motors roundup: Market share gains in the U.S., 'compelling' buy for Kyle Bass

Reviews for the 2015 Chevy Silverado and 2015 GMC Sierra indicate the pickups pose a more serious challenge to the Ford F-series juggernaut and early sales trends suggest that consumers might be agreeing.

General Motors (GM +2.8%) knocked out a second straight month of gaining market share in the U.S. Though some criticism on channel-stuffing and bloated inventory is being circulated, most automobile analysts think pent-up demand warrants the aggressive production run.

Bloomberg reports that Hayden Capital Management has taken a stake in the automaker. "GM equity represents one of the most compelling risk/reward situations of any large cap in the world today," notes a presentation slide from the Kyle Bass-founded investment fund.

That is as long as they will finance the autos/trucks to any one with a pulse. We seen this business model before. Hopefully we won't bail them out again.

Come on Bass, why didn't you buy before the 50% in the share price in the last year?

Einhorn's timing on this was much better.

the problem came with home equity and primary mtg loans no longer writing these fraud home loans. the sub-prime auto loans held up well during 2009-2010. do believe they purchased americredit who has good history of underwriting sub-prime auto ,loans. at least hope so. pay the auto loan but default on the home. the need to drive to work. yes auto terms are getting easy especially extending the payback period to 72 months. gm was "compelling" at 20 now just cheap. same with f.

Please don't give it a rest. The negative sentiment is why I bought calls a year ago. It's amazing how strongly held political views and irrelevant emotions in the market create bargains. I'm keeping my leaps another year and might buy more.
